Atlasta Home Sanctuary
Money!! The cost of food for each farm animal is $7.80 per week currently. Three and a half tons of food costs $1300 and lasts only 5-7 days! We have to purchase at least 14 tons of feed a month for the pigs and farm animals alone.
In 2014 Atlasta Home Sanctuary took in 120 animals from Serenity Springs Sanctuary when the owner passed away. This greatly increase the number of our animal residents AND our costs for food, vet bills, hay, etc.
Then there also are wormers, vaccinations, vet bills, electricity, phones, mortgage, taxes, human food, and so much more! This sanctuary with our 400 somewhat mouths to feed is very expensive to run!!
Hay - feed hay and bedding hay (we go through approximatley 220 rolls of hay per year) Pigs DO eat hay! The sanctuary is home to 18 horses and 10 cows.
Surplus/Damaged Produce – This keeps it out of landfills, reduces our expenses, and most importantly, saves lives!! And the pigs and others absolutely love it!! Please, no moldy or rotten food. We can't afford sick pigs.
Dry Food Goods -- Surplus and/or out-of-date breads & baked goods, cereals, corn meal , grains, chips, cookies, crackers, flours, pastas, pretzels, peanuts, popcorn & crackerjacks, rice cakes, raisins, shelled nuts, seeds, etc. … the good thing about pigs is that they aren’t picky eaters!
Pet Food – All Kinds! We use 50 lbs. of dog food alone each day -- and that’s not to mention food for the birds, cats, ducks, goose, peacocks & rabbits!!
Cat Litter & Litter Boxes -- Both for the baby piglets and the cats
Dog Biscuits, Treats & Toys
